Planning a party for Baby Gray: the invitations

Goodness, Gracious - how in the world has so much time gotten away from me again?!  I promised to share baby Gray's birthday invites with you 6 weeks ago and then I up and disappeared.  Part of it is due to the fact that in the last 2 weeks, my other two children have both celebrated their birthdays, too.  Summer's a bit crazy around here.

So remember I showed you the mood board I made up for Gray's Forest Friends party?   It was a long time ago, so here's a little refresher:

Well, I sent that mood board to a Jessica from Nocciola Design, whose work I had seen before on Minted.  Jessica took my color pallet and the idea of the animals and created a custom design that was incredibly sweet and awesome and perfect.  I think she captured my idea of the party perfectly.  I asked Jessica to make invitations, thank you cards, and little labels.

Since Gray loves books so much (and since he seriously does need need any toys) I also asked Jessica to create some bookplate-style stickers that we could put inside books given to Gray for his birthday.  Instead of the usual "From the library of..." the bookplates say "FOR the library of.." along with a space to write the giver's name.

I've always loved seeing vintage stamps used on wedding invitations as postage, and I saw no reason why I couldn't use the same idea for Gray's birthday invites.  I scoured the internet to find vintage unused stamps that even loosely fit the theme of the party - I ended up with some amazing deer, owl, and tree stamps that I found from Treasurefox on Etsy.

I used a different assortment of stamps on each envelope.  Luckily, I didn't have to mail too many invites since this will only be a little family party - vintage stamps cost about double the face value, and it's hard to add up the correct postage when some of the stamps are worth as little as 1 cent!

I left the envelopes blank for this picture to save you from the horror of seeing my handwriting in person.  Seriously.  It's bad.

So those are the invites.   I'm running out of time now before his party, but I've got lots more little details to show you - coming soon!

xx

  2. Did you know that planning is one of the most exciting things to do for birthdays? However, this can also be stressful, as you need to think about concepts, games, food and even where to buy wholesale balloons. My technique is to ask my daughters about their favourites and then combine them together. That way I can come up with an innovative and unique idea for my party.
